(Kuala Lumpur) The "great Jang Geum", miss Lee Young-ae is going to visit Malaysia in March.

Starting from 1st of January of this year, miss Young-ae is the new spokesmodel for LG electronics' products. She will be on a series of promotion tour around Asia. Her tour includes Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and several other countries which are hit by the Korean wave.

The organizers have arranged to have miss Young-ae visit Taiwan on march. Her commercials will also be aired at about the same time in Taiwan. Though unconfirmed, she'll also come to Malaysia for promotional events in March.

Dae Jang Geum's image gets approval

Achieving the second zenith in her career with "Dae Jang Geum", miss Young-ae's image in the show wins the approval of LG electronics and a two-year contract from LG. LG's deputy CEO "Zheng Xiang Guo" says "LG hopes to provide a better and more convenient home environment to the people, and the belevolence of miss Young-ae's character in DJG shares the same goal as ours."

Earlier, she was the spokesmodel for LG's air-conditioning products, credit cards, housing properties and make-up products. This time, she'll be the spokesmodel for all LG's products.

Super starlet Lee Young-ae, who has the sobriquet 'Oxygen Lady' and 'Asian Sweetheart', is Korea's top actress. Lee Young-Ae wins Best Actress at Sitges Film Festival

Lee Young-Ae, the leading actress of 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' (directed by Park Chan-Wook, produced by Moho Film), won the best actress award at the Sitges International Film Festival of Catalonia which was held from October 9 to 18.

CJ Entertainment, the distributor of the film, announced on October 18 afternoon that "Lee Young-Ae of 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' grabbed the best actress award at the Sitges film festival."

'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' had been selected in the 'OFICIAL FANTÀSTIC' section, the official competition section of the festival.

Along with Brussels and Fantasporto film festival, Sitges film festival is considered a major world fantastic film festival. Last year, Park Chan-Wook's 'Oldboy' won the best film award.

This year, the festival put a particular emphasis on Asian films. Along with three Korean films, many Asian films were included in the competition, such as 'Seven Swords' from China, 'The Great Yokai War' of Japan's Takashi Miike, and 'Shutter' from Thailand.

yes people, its true. The first korean animated series based on the popular DJG drama. It is said that this animated drama will focus on JG's childhood in the palace. Where she enters the palace with a dream to make people happy with her food.

This will add comic and educative element from its original drama.From what Donilpark mention in the CKDFC forum.This has been announce for a while but has been quiet since. They are still holding the official announcement till 11th of this month(11/11 ->tomorrow). Let's see if it does come true.

'Lady Vengeance' receives a 5-minute standing ovation in Venice

Park Chan-Wook's 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' received a loud standing ovation for 5 minutes after its official screening at the 62nd Venice Film Festival at 10:30 PM on September 3, local time.
The official screening, held along with the red carpet walk, was even more enthusiastically received than the press premiere of the previous day. Park and the leading actress Lee Young-Ae, each dressed in a suit and Hanbok, responded with a complacent smile.

Among the responses of the audiences were: "It's way more difficult to comprehend than Park's previous film, but it's good," "The actress' performance was touching and impressive. It's a journey toward catharsis through the contrast of colors and revenge," and "I really like it. I can't find anything to criticize about it."

'The night of Korean movies together with the kind Ms. Geum-Ja', held after the screening at the Westin Excelsior Hotel in the early morning of September 4, was also successful.

"To put it briefly, I made this film to win the hearts of women," he continued, expressing his gratitude for the 4 women, his wife and daughter who were next to him, Lee Mi-Gyeong, the vice president of CJ Entertainment, and Lee Young-Ae.

"There is nothing that can be accomplished by one person alone. A film is the product of the collaboration of the director and all the staffs. I'm grateful for the chance to be in such a film," said Lee Young-Ae. "I also hope that the Pusan Film Festival will be as successful as the Venice Festival."

At the 62nd Venice Film Festival, the oldest of the three major world film festivals, director Park Chan-Wook and actress Lee Young-Ae of 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance', one of the in-competition films, attended the film's official screening and walked on the red carpet.

The screening took place at the Sala Grande theater at 10PM on September 3 along with the red carpet walk. A Chinese scholar analyzes the causes of Daejanggeum's success

A Chinese literature scholar attributed the success of MBC's TV series 'Daejanggeum' to its realization of 4 cultural values.

In an interview with Beijing Youth on September 12, Shao Yiping, a Chinese literature professor at Fudan University, claimed that what made Daejanggeum successful was its depiction of an ordinary woman's success story, its portrayal of medicinal food culture common to all Asia, its touching and beautiful lessons, and its healthy and positive spirit of a challenger.

First, he explained that, even though the pursuit of power and political conflicts within the palace lies in the background of Daejanggeum, the story maintains its focus on the life of the ordinary woman Jang-Geum as she matures and advances. The viewers, also living in a world of conflict and struggles, find it easy to sympathize with her, and are soon absorbed into the story.

Next, he pointed out that 'curing disease with food', one of Daejanggeum's attractions, is a long tradition common throughout Asia which is still prevalent in our modern lives. It allowed Daejanggeum to naturally blend into the cultures of various Asian countries, and even brought about a renewed fad over medicinal food.

Park Chan-Wook has successfully awakened the compound quality of an actress hidden behind her beauty.

One could say that 'Inshallah', 'Joint Security Area', and 'Last Present' did no more than reproducing the intellectual and elegant quality of an already intellectual and elegant actress. = It's true that I hear less criticism than before. I'm satisfied that I did all I can to perform the character. It certainly feels good to be able to exhibit aspects of me that were previously unseen. I enjoyed the experience, and that's sufficient to satisfy myself.

- Director Park Chan-Wook even said that it was a movie made solely for Lee Young-Ae.

= That's his lip service. (laugh) I believe it was a synergic effect between us. We built up the character together from scrip writing stage. We also actively digested each other's opinion during the filming.

- You have completely turned over your familiar image from the past 10 years.

= The ability to change is the attraction of being an actress. Apart from whether audiences like it, I found the process highly enjoyable. I acted out the ugly scene at the end, literally according to the instruction that says 'the most grotesque possible looks of Geumja'. It's an image that naturally follows out of the story.

- Your way of talking particularly stands out, for example, when you blurt out, "mind your own business, dear."

= I read out the script many times before the shooting began. Some say Geumja's swearing is awkward, but that's how it's meant to be. Her unnaturalness was intentional. It appears simple, but in fact, I had a hard time concentrating in that scene. It still looks surprising to me, and fun.

- You'll probably admit that you have stayed at a distance from the audiences as an actress. Is that intended to be a mystfying strategy?

= Lately in a conversation with audiences, I was asked, "how many meals do you have per day?" I was surprised that I had felt so distant to the fans. Looking back, I have gone through the usual steps that all new faces do. I have exposed my private life through TV programs like 'Star Docu', and I have done many interviews--I have done a variety of things to let myself known as a new figure. It could be due to the elegant image shown through TV commercials. But I'd rather not deliberately employ a mystifying strategy or make efforts to demystify myself. If you keep following the likes and dislikes of the public, you end up not satisfying anyone.

- You cover all genres, including TV, commercial and movies, and don't seem to favor one against another.

= The charm of TV dramas lies in the fact that it's loved by people of all ages and gender. It's an undescribable feeling that an old grandma on a small faraway island watches and likes my drama. On the other hand, I usually resort to movies for a chance to delve deeper into acting. But genre doesn't matter too much. It's most important to find a character that I can challenge.

- You have been acting for 10 years already.

= My debut as an actress was through 'Love and Marriage' in 1995. I can't say I'm totally satisfied but there's nothing I can do about it. In hindsight, though, I think I did the best I could. There were many trial and errors, but I think I spent an earnest 10 years so I have no regret. You could say I have gotten 'rounder' with ages. My perspective has become deeper and more comprehensive. At least my acting has improved since when I was in my twenties, hasn't it? If not, I should quit my job. (laugh)

With the pre-release hype approaching its climax ahead of its release on July 29th, 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' challenges this year's box office record.

Leveraging off its pre-release recognition and audience preference rate of over 90%, it's topping every major ticket sales website, recording the highest occupation rate among all Korean movies of the year at MaxMovie, a movie-only ticket reservation website.

As it forewarns a storming box office hit with its ever-so-high preference, recognition and reservation rate, the entire movie industry is curious to find out whether it will blow away the overall depression of Korean movies in the first half of the year.

With all the anticipation of movie fans behind it, however, there also exist obstacles to its box office success, the first being its rating of 18. 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance', the hottest movie of the year awaiting its release on July 29th, marked the highest advance purchase rate among all Korean movies of the year at every ticket sales website, foretellling a smash hit at the box office.

Although such reaction was somewhat expected from the amount of anticipation it has received from long before its release, the purchase rate is way beyond the expectation, and shows the amount of the audience's interest in the movie.

'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance', Park Chan-Wook's new film awaiting its theater release on July 29, was included in the main competition lineup at the 62nd Venice Film Festival. Park Chan-Wook's new movie 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' has been invited to this year's Venice Film Festival, giving her the prestigious chance to walk on the red carpet along with Park.

She was informed of the news while visiting a theater in Cheongju for an on-stage acknowledgment, and did not hide her delight at the pleasant news that reached her one day before the movie's theater release, saying that she is "very happy and excited." "I've been preoccupied with prepration to go on stage with director Park and Kim Shi-Hoo," she said. "I just heard the news, and now I'm even busier getting congratulating phone calls."

"The audiences during the two days on the weekend were over 900,000," said an official of CJ Entertaintment, the distributor of the film. "We estimate that about 1.5 million tickets were sold from Thursday, the opening day, to Sunday." This is a record-high figure, surpassing 'Taegeukgi' which had summoned 10 million audiences last year.

It's even more noteworthy that, as opposed to the blockbuster 'Taegeukgi' which had a budget of 14 billion won (14 million US dollars), 'Lady Vengeance' is not the typical commercially-aimed movie, and spent a relatively small 4.2 billion won (4.2 million US dollars). Before I used to think that I should speak of many things in person, but now I think that I can speak indirectly through my works instead. It may be more accurate to say that I didn't really want interviews, than there was a particular reason for not doing it.

How do you think you have changed since then?

I like it better now. At that time I desired too much compared to what I possessed. As most people in their 20's are, I was full of ambitions to succeed, as a result wanting to achieve more than I was capable of. When I look at my old pictures, I can see the restless determination to 'do well' in my face. Such a period has passed, and now I am able to embrace most everything, if not all. Although I may have more wrinkles, I'm more satisifed with myself now.

What is the ultimate you that you wish for?

It seems that nothing really works out just because you want it to. Now I'm aware that it only makes life hard for you. Not completely without a goal, but I'd like to lead a peaceful and ordinary life.

Would it be possible for you to be ordinary?

That's probably why I want an ordinary life the more. I want to live a common life like other people, getting married and having children.

So you want an ordinary life, which seems even harder to get than the highest fame as an actor?

Fame, there's no end to such thing. I suppose everyone would have a different definition of being ordinary, but all I want is just a quiet and unnoticed life, without being too greedy.

But your self-management is simply too extraordinary to lead an ordinary life. It's impossible for an ordinary person to be so strict about herself as you are. Your acquaintances say that there is no one like you in the entertainment world. Tell me more.

I'm curious what they say about me. There really isn't much to say, because you just don't give them much to say about you. You have spent more than 10 years without a noticeable flaw in this extraordinary circle, namely the Korean entertainment world.

Do you have, by any chance, a principle of your own?

I'll have to look back myself. You have known me for 8 years yourself. How was I at that time? Was I very different from now, say much agitated, since I was younger then?

No, you were calm and thorough. I haven't seen any other actor before or after then who came over to our office to look at her own photographs in person.

I did that? When was it?

That was when you were shooting . When I chose a photograph where your eyes looked pretty, you chose a different one, saying that your mouth in that picture was not tense enough. You seemed like an actor who wished to control everything about yourself, up to your fuzz hair in photographs.

I don't remember it, but I can imagine myself so. It must have been something like a sense of responsbility.

Are you still like that?

No, I'd like to be, but I can't afford to.

You have changed gradually, but not dramatically. And your thoughts are just as hard to guess as ever. Couldn't it be due to a lack of interest on your part? Do you need more attention from the public?

No, that's not what I meant.

In fact, your reputation now is incomparable to back then. When I recently went to Hong Kong, I was asked if I knew you more often than I was asked about Bae Yong-Joon in Tokyo. I was surprised myself. Being a historical drama with uncommon vocabulary, I never imagined it would be so well-received abroad. I heard that the detailed subtitles helped a lot. I heard that even the reputation of Kelly Chen, who dubbed your voice, is going up.

Have you changed at all in the midst of such frenzy?

While before I used to respond right away when I was hit, now I take some time before I respond. In other words, I restrain myself. I tend to think too much, which is both my strength and weakness. For a celebrity, deep thoughts and self-control are necessary. Actors need to be emotional and spontaneous, but one can easily lose balance because of that. In the entertainment world, you are bound to fall down when the wind blows unless you have a firm root. I came to believe that you need to possess a balanced way of thinking. This might be how I changed, if ever.

Are you spontaneous and emotional at all?

Sometimes I am, because when I act, I have to relax. But other than that, I usually stay tense and restrained. 'If you're in a place where what's seen externally accounts for everything, the best defense is to strictly control what gets to be seen,' this is what you had written for my interview, isn't it?

That's how I feel whenever I think about you. Which role you have performed do you think is closest to the real Lee Young-Ae? I can't get an answer for it in the form of an essay-type question without being given multiple choices to choose from.

That's not true. I had appeared in TV programs like , and had not avoided exposing the smallest details about myself.

Could it be that all of those were already forgotten? Couldn't it be perhaps because of your image that you have recently formed, or should I say, that became somehow fixed, since you may not have wanted that image yourself?

I think so too. I'm not too happy about the fact that people tend to judge me based on only the past 2 or 3 years.

Do you wish that people would stop caring too much about your private life? Or do you take it for granted?

We're all humans after all, and I'm an actress, and they are the public. How could an actress say 'please don't care about me', when that is the essence of their occupation? And in any case it's not like they will stop being interested just because I want them to. I have matured enough to take it for granted that I can't avoid being exposed to outside as a 'public figure', so to speak. That's why I think I need self-control. Now I am well aware that it only harms myself to respond directly to the public's interest and be deeply affected by it.

Here are the pictures of the cast of Daejanggeum who also appeared in the 1999 drama Huh Jun, which was also produced by the same director and which also dealt with medicine.

The head court lady is the wife of Huh Jun (main character)'s teacher. Pretty much the same personality as in Daejanggeum...

Janggeum's uncle plays the role of Huh Jun's friend. He's a funny guy here, too.

*I wanted to post this earlier but was looking for it in the oficial site. I was attracted to this post because of Madam Han's comment bout LYA and also Ji Jin Hee's comment too. I'm glad that Han sanggung mamanyim is becoming good friends with LYA as she is on the screen. I hope both of them will remain good friends. I also heard the rumour(since i'm not sure if it is true or not) that YMK and LYA are attending Yoga class together. Lovely.. and thinking bout JJH aren't able to look LYA in the eyes during the early stage of the filming is rather funny and sweet. He really likes her & I think it was the first time their were together in a drama or film. This summer is expected to be a difficult time for Korean movies, with 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' being the only film that can rival Hollywood blockbusters.

Korean movies occupied 25.3% of the audience in January, in a hard fight against foreign movies like 'The Phantom of the Opera', 'Constantine' and 'Shark Tale'.

While the occupation rate went up to 65.9% in February due to the success of 'Marathon', it dropped back to 46.6% in March when foreign movies again took control of the market.

Gaining back momentum in April with 'Crying Fist' and 'A Bittersweet Life', Korean movies such as 'Blood Rain', 'Antarctic Journal' and 'Love in Magic' are in the lineup for the competition next month with 'Kingdom of Heaven' and 'Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith'.

However, in June when the high season starts for the movie theaters, numerous quality Hollywood movies are scheduled for release in Korea, while no domestic film of equivalent caliber is in sight except for 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance', predicting a hard time for Korean movies.

The lineup of Hollywood movies to open in June includes 'Batman Begins', the finale of the Batman series; 'War of the Worlds', directed by Steven Spielberg and featuring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning; and 'Cinderella Man', starring Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger. Following them up in July, 'The Island' with Ewan McGregor and 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' featuring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are to be released in turn.

In particular, 'War of the Worlds' and 'Cinderella Man' is said to have both artistic quality and box office power, drawing the eyes of movies fans across the globe.

In contrast, 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' of director Park Chan-Wook starring Lee Young-Ae is practically the only domestic movie that seems capable of matching the Hollywood blockbusters this summer.

Major Korean movies in the lineup for the latter half of this year include 'Duelist', directed by Lee Myeong-Se and starring Ha Ji-Won and Kang Dong-Won, and 'April Snow' starring the biggest 'Hanryu' star Bae Yong-Joon, both opening in September during the autumn festival holidays. Earlier than that, Lee Beom-Soo's 'Idaero, Can't Die' and 'Welcome to Dongmakgol' featuring Shin Ha-Gyun will accompany the 'lonely Ms. Geum-Ja' in late August.

In 2004, there was a commercial that sent a quiet yet grand message to people living in a fast-changing world. It was the commercial that begins with "Humans, humans. Do not hurry," advertising 'Jayeon-Eun', Woongjin's fruit and vegetable juice.

The commercial left a deep impression on viewers with the model Lee Young-Ae's gracefulness, watercolor-like pictures and its message for modern humans to take time and wait as the nature does, winning 'Best Commercial Chosen by Consumers Award'.

Last year, the commercial boosted Woongjin Food's share in the fruit-vegetable juice market by 175%. In particular, the company's market share climbed to the top for tomato and aloe products. 'Jayeon-Eun' also won Best Brand Award of 2004 in last October, co-sponsored by Korea Consumer's Forum and The Korea Economic Daily. It has truly gained a firm ground as the representative brand for fruit and vegetable juice in Korea.

To continue their success of last year, Woongjin Food renewed their contract with the actress Lee Young-Ae and filmed a new commercial on March 28.

"We decided to extend the contract because Lee Young-Ae matches the pure and clean image that we seek for our product," explained a Woongjin Food representative. "In addition, the fact that she is currrently the most well-known and trustworthy model also contributed to our decision."

It is said that Lee Young-Ae also gladly accepted the offer, as the commercial conforms to her image and it encourages health and nature.

The shooting took place in a forest full of ripe tomatoes and grapes. Despite the untimely cold weather, Lee Young-Ae had to wear a sleeveless one-piece skirt and stand in rain for hours. Although she looked tired from the movie production that had continued until early morning the previous day, her natural performances in scenes where she feels the nature looking at the fresh grapes and tomatoes in spring rain and shows a satisfactory smile while drinking 'Jayeon-Eun' drew exclamations from the surrounding people.

The new 'Jayeon-Eun' commercial will be aired on TV starting in late April.

Currently Lee Young-Ae is shooting Park Chan-Wook's new movie 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' where she performs as the leading female 'Geum-Ja' who avenges herself on Choi Min-Shik.

This must be the last time I will greet you as Jang-Geum.
I guess I was deeply absorbed in Jang-Geum too.
Sorry about my belated message.

Looks like the time has finally arrived to let go of Jang-Geum, whose life I have lived with all my heart for so long. It's too difficult for me to leave her behind alone. Even though we may forget Jang-Geum as time goes on, she will continue to go her way as she has so far.

I would like to thank Jang-Geum, who had been buried in history for hundreds of years and came back to awaken me to many valuable truths, as well as all DJG viewers, from our children who saw DJG through with Jang-Geum-like curiosity, to our loving grandmas and grandpas.

I'm also deeply grateful to all DJG staffs, including Lee Byeong-Hoon the producer, Kim Young-Hyeon the scriptwriter, and the rest of the staffs and fellow actors. Looking back, it was tough yet enjoyable time.

Lee Young-Ae became a promotion ambassador for the Pink Ribbon Campaign, which is aimed at the reduction of breast cancer. The Pink Ribbon Campaign is an attempt to remind Korean women of the importance of early diagnosis for the prevention of breast cancer. Korea has the highest death rate from breast cancer in the world, according to the survey conducted by the World Health Organization.

Lee Young-Ae will participate in various activities such as the 2005 Pink Ribbon Marathon to promote the prevention of breast cancer, along with other ambassadors like Jeon In-Hwa, Nam Sang-Mi and Lee Na-Young who was aboard and could not attend the ceremony.

Looks like Madam Han (YMY) is here to stay ^^ we will see the show every saturday 7 - 8 pm, the best part is learning how to cook royal korean dishes especially from the drama(though don't know where to get some of the ingredients & really lack of translation) and get to see some NG during the end of the show that I don't think i'ved seen in the internet. so thats cool ^^

휴 일 아침 내내 그를 엄습한 것은 여느 때와 다름없는 무거운 스케줄이라 들었다. 바쁘게 움직이지만 성급한 모습은 꼼꼼히 숨겨두었나 보다. 지진희의 얼굴에 흐르는 일 그램의 작은 여유가 도시의 아스팔트 위를 흐르는가 했더니 이내 촉촉한 비가 되어 변덕스러운 날씨를 달래주고 있었다.

"캐러멜 모카요" 달착지근한 생크림 거품을 티스푼으로 살짝살짝 떠보던 그가 한마디 한다. "잘 시켰다. 맛있는데요?" 달고도 단, 넘치도록 많은 양의 캐러멜 모카와 스위스풍 널찍한 커피잔이 그에겐 그 순간의 행복인가 보다. 오늘만큼은 왠지 그가 좋아하는 '수다'를 한 묶음 늘어놓고만 싶다.

농구에 빠져 살던 고집스러운 소년

무 엇이든 혼자 해내는 데 취미를 붙였던 터라 고집도 강했고 싫고 좋음이 확실했던 그. 학교에서는 그다지 착하고 말 잘 듣는 학생이 못됐다. 아니, 가끔은 선생님 말을 잘 들을 때도 있었다. 떠드는 놈 나가라고 해서 '예' 하고 나간 적도 있었으니까. 아들의 공부와 각종 과외에 열심이셨던 어머니 덕분에 시간을 쪼개 바쁘게 살았던 학창시절. 유일한 돌파구는 농구였던 것 같다. 고등학생이 되자 공부를 잘하던 친구 녀석이 그에게 공부를 가르쳐줄 테니 농구를 가르쳐달라 했다. 그 친구 덕분에 대학에 들어가는 것은 어느 정도 가능했다. 지금도 가끔 만나 술잔을 기울이는 추억 속의 친구다.

1998년, 다니던 회사는 IMF를 맞닥뜨리면서 대대적인 구조 조정에 착수했다. 여직원들은 거의 회사를 그만 두어야 했고, 그나마 남아있던 남자 직원들도 그 서늘한 칼날에서 예외는 아니었다. 어느 날, 친한 선배가 술을 마시며 말했다. '진희야, 난 정말 이 일이 아니면 안 되겠다'. 그는 다음날 바로 회사에 자진 사표를 건넸다. 그가 가진 의리다. 누군가가 남고 대신 구군가가 나가줘야 평화가 오는 사회라면 그는 밥줄을 건네주어도 상관없었다. 어디서든 그가 좋아하는 사진만 할 수 있다면. 지금도 가끔 취미 삼아 사진도 찍고 공예품도 만드는데 연기를 하면서도 이 두 가지 끈을 놓고 싶지 않다. 그렇게 무아지경에 사진의 매력 속으로 빠져있을 즈음, 그의 기질을 흠모했던 운명과 만나게 되었다.

만날 수밖에 없었던 연기라는 운명

몇 번이나 퇴짜를 놓았지만, 기획사에서는 그를 가만 내버려두지 않았다. 그러기를 수십 번. 끝내는 계약을 했지만 자신은 소위 '떠야 한다'는 강박관념이 거의 제로 상태였다.

박 광수 감독의 작품 오디션에 던져졌을 때, '보여드릴 것이 아무것도 없습니다'라는 초지일관의 모습을 보였음에도 불구하고 결과는 나쁘지 않았다. "뭐라 해야 할까요. 그 누군가에게 참 미안한 마음이 들더군요. 연기라는 것을 하기 위해 땀 흘려 공부하는 학생들이나 작은 역 하나를 따내기 위해 노력하는 이름 모를 연기자들에게요." 신기할 정도로 연예계는 그를 빨아들였다. 연기를 시작한 후 2년 여의 시간을 단막극과 짧은 역에 만족해야 했지만, 모두 주옥 같은 작품들이었다. 특히 황인뢰 감독은 그의 지고지순하고 깔끔한 매력을 곧잘 잡아냈다.

지금은 20부작 드라마 '봄날'에서 이복 형제와 삼각관계에 놓이는 '고은호'역에 몰입 중이다. 똑똑하고 반듯하며 밝고 예의바른. 엄마의 흔적을 찾아 제주도로 길을 떠나는 의사 역할이다. 캐릭터의 외형은 밝고 사랑스럽지만, 그 내면의 질곡을 표현해내야 한다. 고은호 역할은 볼수록 욕심이 나고 불현듯 짬짬이 연구하게 만드는 매력을 가졌다. 대사 한 편을 가만히 읊조려 본다.

"새엄마, 나무의 밑둥을 자르셨네요. 저 나무는 엄마의 유일한 흔적이에요."

아주 낮고도 고요한 이 혼잣말은 어느 쓸쓸한 남자의 음성이 되어 그의 목을 타고 흘러 나온다.

평범함 속에 진리가 보이는 현재

이제 이 세상에서 가장 어려운 것을 만들어볼까 한다.

바로 아름다운 가정이다.

어 릴 적부터 부모님의 철저한 사랑으로 보살펴진 정서는 가끔 혼자서 무언가를 감당하고 해내는 것에 상당한 스트레서를 받도록 만들었다. 지금은 오히려 이런 구속에서 많이 자유로워졌지만, 아이러니하게도 모든 생각이 단순해지고 결정이 쉬어지기까지 무척 많은 생각을 해야만 했다. 내 아이가 생기면 되도록 구속 없는 '방목식 교육'을 지향할 예정이다. 방종 직전의 최대한의 자유, 그리고 살갑고 예쁘고 편안한 가정. 알고 있다. 어려운 일이라는 것은.

그러나 평범함 안에 진리가 있다고 최선을 다하는 인생이 고무적인 것 아닌가.

어쩌면 그에게도 애초부터 완벽한 것은 없었다. 그가 가지고 태어난 모든 끼와 기질과 능력, 매력이 그에게 채찍질을 가해주지는 못했다. 좋아하는 것만 추구하려 했던 외곬수와 그 안에서 느꼈던 만족, 행복이 그의 모든 것이었다.

하지만 연기는 다르다는 것을 안다. 처음 오디션 장소에서 보여줄 것이 없다고 하자, 어디선가 들려온 '야 임마, 뭐라도 하고 들어가!'라는 고함소리처럼 앞으로 어떤 긴장과 당황스러움이 그를 엄습할지 모른다.

그가 지금 이 시간에도 준비하고 있는 이유다. 서서 기다리든 앉아서 기다리든 아무리 천근이란 무게로 피곤이 들이닥쳐도 그가 준비해야만 하는 이유. 그 준비는 꾸며진 것이 아닌 진실이어야 하기에 더욱 시간이 걸린다.

악 다문 무표정이 그의 아이콘인 것처럼, 세상의 변화에 호들갑을 떠는 성격이 못된다. 대본 속의 세상을 들여다볼 때나 혼자의 생각에 암반수의 깊이만큼 빠져들어 있을 때가 유일하게 세상과 대화를 하고 있다고 보면 되겠다. 이런 성격 때문이었나 보다. 그를 연기자로 만들기 위해 주변에서 수십 번의 도끼를 내려찍어야 했던 이유는.

Major Japanese newspapers such as Sports Hochi and Sankei Sports featured articles about the pressing meeting at the 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' production site held on March 31 in Paju, Kyunggi-do in their April 4 internet edition, and showed keen interest in Lee Young-Ae.

In particular, Sports Hochi described Lee Young-Ae with expressions such as "Korea's top actress who has become popular through 'Daejanggeum', currently being aired on NHK-BS2", "the female Yon-Sama", "a national actress surpassing Jeon Ji-Hyeon and others", and "Korea's 'Yoshinaga Sayuri'".

The nickname "female Yon-Sama" comes from the fact that both Bae Yong-Joon's 'Yong' and Lee Young-Ae's 'Young' are written as 'Yon' in Japanese, and implies that she is an actress enjoying a reputation equalling that of Bae Yong-Joon.

The newspaper introduced 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' as "a collaboration between the world-renowned director Park Chan-Wook and the 'female Yon-Sama'".

At the press meeting on March 31, more than 100 reporters from Japan and Hong Kong gathered to report on the production of 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance'.

They're talking about things like over 100 reporters from Japan and Hong Kong coming to the press meeting, what the movie is about, and the movie's upcoming schedule (filming to be completed in April, theater release in July). In their interviews, Park Chan-Wook describes how Young-Ae is not hesitant at all to perform cruel & violent scenes, that sometimes she even suggests going further, which is so unexpected that it surprises him. Young-Ae in turn says (in a half jokingly complaining tone) she thought that's what he wanted, and that it was possible because he opened up opportunities for her such transformation.

Anyone kind enough to translate the Chinese subtitles? Someone already annotated it in Korean, but just out of curiosity..

From the annotations I assume a reporter asked Young-Ae whether it's true that she was paid 1 billion won for the movie (the highest salary for any Korean actress), which made both her and the director laugh, then she jokingly replies, "would you be willing to give me that much money?" then says, "the salary was indeed high and I'm certainly grateful for it, but it's definitely not that much." I heard that she was paid about half of that or slightly less (which is still among the top for an actress).

Although this is a GOOD news to the HK ppl, but I'm really sad coz even till now (the drama finished feb) its really rare to hear anything anymore about DJG in Malaysia. this is told by someone in the CKDFC(Chicago Korean Drama Fan Club) that after they finished filming DJG, the tv station bring the whole crew (not sure how many but definiately the main char and crews) for a holiday somewhere in Singapore and Malaysia. During that time, DJG is not aired yet in M'sia. Wonder how true is this, I'm very happy that they choose our country though... i did hope they have a great time. However, JJH was said to stay back in Korea doing the filming of his drama Miss Kim's 1 Million Dolar Project.Seems like Madam Jung also stay back I see coz she is in the drama as well ^^

A few pieces of news I've read lately:

- A Korean entertainment company conducted a poll among ~300 tourists from Japan, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong on their favorite Korean actor/actress. Answer differed with each country: Japanese tourists chose Bae Yong-Joon, Taiwanese chose Young-Ae, Chinese chose Jeon Ji-Hyeon and Hong Kong tourists chose Choi Ji-Woo as their most favorite. (But then, the sample size seems too small to take this survey seriously..)

- Hong Kong-Taiwan music awards (IFPI Records) invited Kwon Sang-Woo and Young-Ae as award givers in their ceremony to be held on March 22 (yesterday?). Kwon Sang-Woo apparently accepted the offer and left for Hong Kong, but not sure about Young-Ae. (Most likely turned it down due to her tight schedule with the movie)

- A Chinese daily's internet edition (大洋網) featured an article on Young-Ae's cover picture of Hong Kong weekly 東方新地, mentioning that she looks older than she was in DJG, pointing out wrinkles around her eyes and her sagging face countour. (Too straightforward and nitpicking an article to my taste..)

First, they are planning to open their filming location to the press, both domestic and foreign, on March 31. This is pretty exciting because the movie was being filmed with as little exposure to the public as possible, which is typical of Park Chan-Wook, the director. Several TV stations and newspapers in Japan and Taiwan have already shown interest in visiting. Usually the film company pays the travel expenses, but this time they are even willing to come at their own expenses. It just shows the level of attention this movie is attracting worldwide, due to the director's and Young-Ae's reputation.

Secondly, here's the translation of the latest article on the news board:

Song Gang-Ho, Yoo Ji-Tae, Kang Hye-Jeong and Bae Doo-Na get together at the summon of Park Chan-Wook

Park Chan-Wook's new film 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' is going to feature an unprecedented group of top celebrities in its cameo roles. The movie, which completes Park's 'revenge trilogy', following 'Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance' and 'Oldboy', is not only the first attempt to portray the revenge of a female lead, but also the summation of the previous two films.

Therefore, traces of the preceding movies can be found throughout the movie, one of which is the cameo appearance of actors who had performed in these earlier films.

Among these actors who either already filmed or are scheduled to film their scenes are Choi Min-Shik, Song Gang-Ho, Yoo Ji-Tae, Bae Doo-Na, Kang Hye-Jeong, Oh Gwang-Rok and Yoon Jin-Suh. Except for Choi Min-Shik who plays the role of Mr. Baek, the victim of 'Keum-Ja' Lee Young-Ae's revenge, most of their roles are insignificant cameo roles.

Most of them already finished filming their scenes, including Bae Doo-Na who passes by in a TV commercial, and the details are kept as secret to heighten the expectation of the audience.

Oh Gwang-Rok, who had appeared as 'guy #2' in 'Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance' and the man who jumped from the roof of a building to kill himself in 'Oldboy', took the role of a family member of the child kidnapped by Keum-Ja, thus appearing in all three films of Park's revenge trilogy.

'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' is currently being filmed in Pusan. It is scheduled to finish shooting in April, and open in theaters at the end of June.

There is going to be a historical drama by the same P.D. and the writer of Daejanggum~
Currently, they are choosing the actors and actresses for the main characters. Storyplot: it is about a prince who is working to become the king and also a love story between him and another girl.
There was a poll considering this issue: Which actors and actresses would fit best for this drama? Out of a survey of 1578 people, 95% voted for Leeyoungae and Jijinhee (Janggum and Jungho in DJK) I am expecting this drama to be a huge hit in Korea too.

this is a good news but knowing Leeya's character, she would probably not do the same story.

oh well, i really hope she would haha... even though in real life JJH is married with another Lee, but then they could still be together in movie's or drama.. it's really rare for korean drama i'ved seeing showing a more matured looking guy and lady as main actors ^^ go LYA! go JJH!

oh ya, been trying to find any pictures LYA and JJH together in a modern cloth together. anyone has any?

In the poster, Lee Young-Ae looks extremely pale, giving the obsever an almost eerie feeling. Such a dramatic expression was possible because her actual skin is so fair and transparent. Despite her naturally light skin, she alwyas makes sure to keep it that way by using skin whitening products and sun screens. She also regularly uses her own methods such as rubbing her face with milk-soaked cotton or potato-ground juice.

YA's new film going to Venice instead of Cannes

Just read in an article that Park Chan-Wook, director of Young-Ae's new movie , plans to submit it to Venice Film Festival. The main reason is that he doesn't think it will be finished in time for Cannes Film Festival which takes place in May, so he switched his target to Venice instead. It will be the first showing outside Korea (Korea release date is 6/24).

The article also says that they completed shooting ~80% of the movie so far. Another article reports that the crew will move to Pusan early this week to film a scene where Keum-Ja shoots a guy who tries to kidnap her.

Because of the great success of DJG, Youngae becomes a popular figure among the Pacific region. The Woongjin , a health drink producer, had signed youngae for their new series of the ' juice' advertisements. In order to perform as the 'fresh' and 'healthy' look (coz youngae is the oxygen girl), Youngae dressed as the snow white to take the photoshots.
Since the DJG is very popular in HongKong recently, it encourages the producer (Woongjin) to hit the HongKong's market next week(mid-March). Also, many companies wanted to invite Youngae to be the guest of different ceremonies. However, it is unfortunate that Youngae is busy in the production of 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' which caused her no time for the DJG promotion at HongKong.
Everyone knows that youngae's 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' is possibly to enter the Berlin International Film Festival. At the same time, another Korean actress KimHeeSun also gets the opportunity to enter the Festival because of the current movie with Jackie Chan. Although Kim's six years younger than youngae, both are the graduates of the Korea Central University, the stream of the drama.

this is when Jang Geum runs away with Sir Min before finding out she was appointed as the King's Personal Doctor. She was so pressured by the fact the queen wanted her to help her 'treat' the Crown Prince and the King wanted her to tell him what the queen ask her to do. well, never ending battle. but still the best moment they could have together trying to cross the river during winter. both have red ears ^^;

Malaysians,

just came back from KL yesterday. I went to S&M near Kota Raya in search of Lee Young Ae's previous drama + film, also Jai Ji Hee.

Apparently the price are getting better. I bought Jai Ji Hee latest drama the Mrs.Kim 1 million quest (if not mistaken the name) for bout RM33 which the original price is RM60++.
Dae Jang Geum a.k.a Jewel In The Palace about RM13.50 at the shop next to the stairs on the right. Another drama by her was Papa with Bae Yong Jun. Old story & funny looking at her haircut (RM 17++). JSA - RM7.

Though I can't find Invitation or Medical brothers.. found Fireworks which has 2 volumes, still bit expensive for me to buy.Doesn't seem interesting as much. Found another 1, forgot the name but the storyline not as interesting also. I scout twice around the area and then got a headache. Had to since I have limited time visiting there.

So, might check out S&M guys.

Despite each of them being top stars in films and dramas, it was difficult to see Choi Min-Shik and Lee Young-Ae performing together. Finally we will be able to watch them on the same screen in 2005, thanks to their previous collaborations with Park Chan-Wook--Lee Young-Ae through 'Joint Security Area' of 2000, and Choi Min-Shik through 'Oldboy' of 2003.

At the end of last year, the casting of these two stars in 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance', the finale of director Park's revenge series succeeding 'Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance' and 'Oldboy', had generated excitement among movie fans. The filming began on December 1, but they had not performed together as Choi Min-Shik was busy with his other movie, 'Crying Fist'.

Their rendezvous finally came true when Choi Min-Shik joined 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' on February 14 at its filming location in Okcheon, Chungbuk.

We were curious how they looked together, each with their own distinct style and character that may or may not harmonize. "On the first day Lee Young-Ae and Choi Min-Shik met, they showed great teamwork, caring about each other's scenes, movements and lines," said an official of All That Cinema.

The friendly mood among the staffs also helped to lubricate their first meeting, with the majority of the staffs from 'Oldboy' who had shown fantastic collaboration with Park Chan-Wook and Choi Min-Shik also participating in the production of 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance'.

In addition, Song Gang-Ho, a close friend of Choi Min-Shik, paid a visit to show his friendly support for the two stars and the movie as a whole, further warming up the atmosphere.

Choi Min-Shik plays the role of 'Sir Baek', wearing a tidy suit and a tie. Sir Baek is the man who sent Geum-Ja (Lee Young-Ae) to prison, who becomes the target of her revenge the moment she comes back after 13 years of service.

Their confrontation will gradually take form toward the end of the movie. What happened between the two 13 years ago, and what would be the end of the revenge? The attentions of all movie fans are focused on the two actors.

'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' is scheduled to finish filming in March, and open in theaters in June.

It appears that DJG has swept Hong Kong
viewers away, not to mention our
‘Jang Geum’ Lee Young Ae’s popularity
has shoot up to the sky ^^ (might over
exaggerate). However, she is now mostly
known in many parts of Asia from the DJG
series. Looks like she will be the ‘star
ambassador’ for korea tourism.

We all share the same passion that this
drama has bring in our lives and for that
, I don’t think Young Ae could go
visiting in Hong Kong peacefully anymore
(^o^).

My most anticipated Lee Young Ae's new film. This film is totally different from the Jang Geum character she brings in Dae Jang Geum / Jewel In The Palace. It is a revenge trilogy directed by Park Chan-Wook.

It is reported that for the poster, LEEYA endure 10 hours of photography session and lots of changing and make ups. but she still is nice & pleasent person to be with. sweet..

It is said to be release June this year.. hopefully will be shown in Malaysia as well.
